- Moving is
considered one of the most stressful times in ones life.
- So it is
important to have a plan. So now would be a good time to make your
plan.
- Here is a path
you might want to follow to take some of the stress out. next
One
month before your move
- Notify your magazine subscriptions the
Post Office with you new address.
- Get in touch with your local utilities
to let them know of your pending move and arrange to have your
service disconnected.
- Finish any work on your hone that
needs to be done pursuant to your contract
- If you are packing yourself now is a
great time to pack the seldom-used articles.
- As you pack put heavy items such as
books in smaller cartons so they can easily be handled.
- Do not over fill the cartons but do
fill the cartons up so the items do not move about. This especially
important with your fragiles

Weeks before Your Move

- This is a good time to take stock in
your belongings. Decide what you really want and what can be thrown
out or plan for a garage sale.
- If you are doing your own packing its
a good idea to label your cartons with its contents.
- Mark "Open First" things you
might need. Items such as silverware prescriptions drugs etc.
- Make sure you have your driver's
license, auto registration and insurance records.
- Be sure to get all your medical
records
- Make any necessary travel arrangement
such as rental car planes trains.
- Purchase only food you will use over
the next three weeks.
- Arrange to have any school records
transferred.
- Make all necessary banking
arrangements.
- Excellent time to have a garage sale.

Weeks before Your Move

- Arrange to have insurance transferred.
- Plan for transportation of your pets
and any houseplants.
- Make arrangements with your pharmacy.
- Notify the newspaper delivery service
in your new town to arrange for the delivery.
- Have maintenance check on your auto.
- Don't forget about any hidden
valuables and spare keys.

- Now is a good time for yard clean up
one more time.
- Mow your lawn.
- Dispose of any flammable such as gas
in lawn mowers empty paint cans or full paint cans, propane gas
- From your grill. Movers cannot take
these items.
- If you have children its a good idea
to have a baby-sitter on the day of your move.
- Since your hands will be full on
moving day.
- A baby-sitter at your new home is good
idea also if this is possible.
- Pack your travel bags.
- Put your "Open First"
cartons in separate place.
- Send in your bills now with your
change of address on the statement.
- If you are taking any fixtures now
might be a good time to have them disconnected

- The movers will arrive to start the
packing process
- Empty your refrigerator or freezer
now.
- Empty your waterbed if you have one.
- Arrange for payment to the moving
company. This payment must be made when your belongings arrive at
- Your new home. The payment is
generally in cash or bank or postal money order. Before the
furniture is unloaded.
- Make certain that all your banking
arrangements have been finalized and all your valuables are handled
the way you want.
- Have directions and any phone numbers
ready for the driver.
- Notify the police if your old house
will be vacant.

- Remove your bedding pack in a carton.
- Review all paperwork with driver. The
driver will take inventory on your Long Distance move. He will mark
the condition of your furniture.
- If you have time give your house one
last quick cleaning.

Move-In
Day
- Now is a good time to dust and clean
your shelves before you unpack your cartons.
- Empty the car.
- Check your floor plan to make certain
your furniture will fit where you want it.
- Check to make sure utilities are on,
or contact the company to check on status.
- Put your pets in a safe place such as
a back room so they will not get stepped on or run away.
- Be certain someone is at your new
residence to meet the moving van.
- Someone should be available to check
off inventory as it is brought in. Some one else should be available
to direct the movers on where to put the furniture.
- Give yourself time to unpack.
